English term or phrase: past participial noun
Greetings,

Please, what is the Tamil for “past participial noun”?

The participial noun is made up of the relative participle (பெயர் எச்சம்) plus the following endings: ―வன் (masculine), ―வள் (feminine), and ―து (neuter). Accordingly, from படைக்கிற (= who or which creates), the present பெயர் எச்சம் of the verb படை, we form படைக்கிறவன் (= male who creates), படைக்கிறவள் (= female who creates), and படைக்கிறது (= thing which creates). These are the present participial nouns.

However, if we wish to refer to the past, we must adjust our verb forms accordingly: from படைத்த (= who or which created), the past பெயர் எச்சம் of the verb படை, we form படைத்தவன் (= male who created), படைத்தவள் (= female who created), and படைத்தது (= thing which created). These are the past participial nouns.

Best wishes and many thanks,

Simon
