Hi all,

Is there any CAT tool that supports .PUB files natively?

I've read previous posts with anecdotal evidence that the client running MS Publisher should export the files as .DOC first, and then re-import after translation:

But it seems that non-Western fonts might act up?!
Are there any other CAT tools that would eliminate the export/import step?

I'm supposed to do this for several languages, so I'd like to figure out a trouble-free workflow beforehand.

Any experiences appreciated!

Hello Jan,

I was tracking this thread just in case, but I doubt a CAT tool would ever work with Publisher files. The problem with Publisher is the way it lays-out the formatting. Even saving the files as Word documents doesn't always work. I've seen that some of the text, tables and pages are completely ignored when they're saved in other formats. So you need to be extra careful if you do save the files as Word docs. My advice is to copy-paste each page manually, so you can keep the format and lay-out, translate the text, tables, etc. in Word, and then paste the formatted text over the original text in Publisher.

Good luck,

Claudia

Thanks Claudia and Tadzio,

This is what I suspected, but thanks for confirming.

What a drag... I had hoped that MS had made some improvements with the 2007 version ( XML compatibility etc), but it doesn't seem so?!

Maybe worth looking... Jan 12, 2016

... at this article. It's for Trados Studio but the format could be handled in any CAT that manages XML.
