BTW, looking at Ralph Lauren's clothing design for the American team more closely, the basic color scheme is still red, white, and blue. The magenta and navy blue colors are mostly in the trim.

这种叫法是挺牵强的, 倒也没有什么绝对不行的. "The Five Friendlies" sounds more like some new government-sponspored campaign 实在是要表达这层意思, 就用 Friendly Babies, Friendly Dolls 之类的好了. “Fuwa Dolls“ would have been a pretty good general name for the group, since they each have their own name and identity. It seems like the people in charge have already made the switch officially from "Friendlies" to "Fuwa". In my opinion it certainly wasn't something that warranted a "national academic debate/discussion". A few PR experts with a good command of English should have easily come up with such a solution to remedy the situation. Isn't the idea of "democracy" being carried a bit too far?

Getting ready for the opening ceremony ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ6co28dX8w BTW, what's the deal with men dressed in what seems to be women's clothing of ancient times? Does anyone in the know care to shed some light on that puzzle

在燈光煙火下,化了妝,雄的腳樸朔,雌的眼迷離,兩性傍地走,安能辨她/他是雄雌。

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/olympics/article4439538.ece Women and girls get their fair share of fashion tips. Those of all ages should opt for slim skirts, but anyone with thicker legs should choose darker stockings. “Young girls can wear skirts three centimetres to six centimetres above the knee – but never too short. For middle-aged and older women, the skirt should be at least three centimetres below the knee.” Leather skirts and transparent garments are not advised. “Clothes should not be too small, otherwise this makes people feel you are unreliable.” And fat people should avoid horizontal stripes.
Now I'm wondering how Zhang Yimou's Chinese lute dance number performed in Sydney slipped through the cracks
