pkchan wrote: 先前的照片 pk, Thanks for the photos. Seeing some of the preparation in action is almost as good as seeing the full-blown ceremony. I also wanted to ask you if you knew what the main reason was for images sometimes not displaying properly. I constantly have problems linking images. Is it due to the inadequacy of some servers, or perhaps due to some hidden firewalls?

Wherestip, Those Olympics sneak peeks have been sent to me by my sister-in-law who is in Shanghai. First, I used my blog for the upload, then I downloaded them to this forum. As Kevin said that they weren't shown properly, though I have no problem to see them from my end, I used Picasa for the upload instead. I think it is O.K. this time. I also saw the short clip on Youtube taken by the Korean TV. It is very 張藝謀 and I don't like it a bit. P.K. | | |

Previously I was able to view them by cutting and pasting your links directly into the URL address space. I heard about the confidentiality breach by the Korean press, but didn't bother to look for the video clip. Now it's too late since all of such links have been blocked.

I believe an organization which claims to have a pulse on the "political correctness" of different aspects of different cultures should very well know that the term "Chinglish" often has pejorative connotations in its usage. But that's just my opinion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Language_Monitor Founded in Silicon Valley in 2003, the GLM is supported by a worldwide assemblage of linguists, professional wordsmiths, and bibliophiles to monitor the latest trends in the evolution of language, word usage and word choices as well as their impact on the various aspects of culture, such as political correctness.[2] Their research and analysis on language trends and subsequent impact on politics, business and culture has been used globally in print and electronic media.[3] GLM also works closely with the Chinese-English hybrid, Chinglish, which is generating scores of new words, a number of which have been incorporated into English. This is perhaps related to the 250 million-plus Chinese now studying the English language.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinglish Chinglish is a portmanteau of the words Chinese and English and refers to spoken or written English which is influenced by Chinese[1]. There are an estimated 300 to 500 million users and/or learners of English in the People's Republic of China[2]. The term "Chinglish" is mostly used in popular contexts and may have pejorative or derogatory connotations [3]. The terms "Chinese English" and "China English" are also used, mostly in the academic community, to refer to Chinese varieties of English[4] .

So reach your own conclusion as to whether totally butchered English seen and heard in some Chinese cities today is really something that ought to be curbed and discouraged or rather something that ought to be "celebrated" and encouraged.

He has twice seen the rehearsal.
