Hi everyone I specialise in all things veterinarian but I haven't yet found a way to list this on my profile, other than in my tagline and bio. I haven't seen it in the detailed subjects. Have I missed it? Tia Melanie | | | Lingua 5B Bosnia and Herzegovina Local time: 23:40 Member (2009) English to Croatian + ... All things veterinarian. | Dec 7, 2020 |
I don’t know a veterinarian who “specializes” in all things. The common specializations are for instance small animals/pets, livestock, tropical animals, etc. Can you be more specific? I saw some jobs posted under Livestock/Animal Husbandry or Agriculture that dealt with some general veterinary medicine research. Otherwise, I’m not aware there’s Veterinary as such on the list. | | | Mélanie Wisbey (X) France Local time: 23:40 French to English + ... TOPIC STARTER Thank you for your reply | Dec 8, 2020 |
Why split hairs over this? My question was short and good humoured, not focused on me. If you wish to be pernickety, I am not a veterinarian, I am a translator, so your comment is irrelevant. I am aware of common veterinary specialisms, due to the fact I am a specialist in this subject. I stopped responding to KudoZ due to condescending attitudes, but unfortunately every time I try to exchange on this platform, "colleagues" put me down in no uncertain terms. ... You're right, of course, and regretfully, your specialism is not the only one that has been left out of the lists available on the site. I'd suggest you to raise a Support request asking them to add this and any other fields/areas you feel haven't been included. Hopefully, they will oblige. They didn't when I did, but maybe you'll be luckier. In one of my (many) Support requests dated 21 June 2018, I asked to include Grammar/Style to the list, prompted by a KudoZ... They didn't when I did, but maybe you'll be luckier. In one of my (many) Support requests dated 21 June 2018, I asked to include Grammar/Style to the list, prompted by a KudoZ question that had been posted on that day or thereabout. All I got as a reply was 'will add this to the list of ideas for future implementation' or something along these lines. Nothing happened. On 23 January 2020, I raised the issue again in a Forum thread started by Henry Dotterer, no less, in which I asked Barbara Carrara wrote: For instance, how about expanding the field list currently available when asking KudoZ questions? I've noticed that areas such as jewellery, antiques, gardening, ethnography, animal welfare, ethology, ethnography, theatre, performing arts are missing. These are just a few I could think of on the top of my head, but there are many more, as I am sure our colleagues will tell you. Other fields also need to be more specific than they currently are, e.g. 'Arts, Arts&Crafts, Painting' (too vague, and what about sculpture and other art forms), or 'Mining&Minerals/Gems' vs. 'Gems, Precious Stones, Metals = Mining* (confusing). (emphasis added) His reply was: Henry Dotterer wrote: I don't see us going through the process of expanding the number of fields (which has implications on jobs, too) at this particular moment. Enough said. Not having some of the fields in which I work on the list did not prevent me from seeing jobs in those fields (so far). I assume ProZ algorithm picks jobs in all related fields to show to you (not completely sure, just my assumption based on what I saw so far). For instance if you select Livestock, most likely you'll be able to see any veterinary related job. Maybe some staff members can confirm this. There aren't many in my language pair, but I could see them. Sorry you got offended, next time a language construction is contradictory to me, I won't be asking for clarifications. "Specialization" and "all things" are conflicting terms. When we asked our veterinarian questions about elephants, cows and tigers, he said he couldn't answer as he specializes in small animals and pets only. To me it seems these distinctions are more relevant in veterinary medicine than in human medicine. ▲ Collapse | | | Can veterinary medicine help with bulls in china shops? | Dec 8, 2020 |

To me it seems these distinctions are more relevant in veterinary medicine than in human medicine. Specialisation is relative. A translator might specialise in law as opposed to medicine, or in family law as opposed to company law. The classifications here will never be a perfect fit for everyone, or perhaps anyone. I specialise in finance, but it doesn’t mean I do bank statements. I think veterinary medicine should have its own category, though. Submit a support ticket. I mean, Elvis left the building too, but he's been sighted hundreds of times since then. I doubt Mélanie'll be back, but you may be right. About Elvis too, who knows. Re. the symbol, I too am not particularly fond of the (X), which invariably reads as 'final', rather than 'exponential'. But I don't think Mélanie or any other Trexiter would give it much of a thought, especially if it was their decision to leave. As for us Tremainers, I guess we'll have to live with this ominous presence, as we do with the In Memoriam pages looming across the site. | | | I know I’m not allowed but... | Dec 9, 2020 |
