Hi there - don't know how best to express this in context. All suggestions welcome! Here's the paragraph:

I think in this context this would be the most appropriate term - perhaps the translation would continue along the lines of: 'I'm always aware that s/he has lived through historical events that I've only read about in books'

you could also try something like 'I can't forget' or 'I always remember' but somehow these seem to imply an opposition, or an unwillingness to take these facts into account that I'm not sure is present in the original.
