Marina Orellana. Glosario internacional del traductor.

In this source, there are several translations of "frente a". They are grouped into different sections. Those that make sense in this comparison in which there are contrasts are: "compared wtih, as opposed to, in contrast with, as against, rather than"

-> yes, as I correctly wrote when quoting Marina Orellana, but incorrectly wrote in the answer. Thanks for pointing it out, Eileen - Mike :)

agree  RichardDeegan: Given the political context (Chavez & ALBA) , and assuming "contract" is a typo of "contrast", this is the best for this context

In opposition to the xxxxx model

Explanation:
Actually, I'd probably use something more simple such as:

"Unlike the ....."

But if you really want to underline the contrast, "in opposition to" would do nicely, I think.

As an alternative to

Explanation:
In the context of the phrase, I believe this is what is meant and this is a natural and concise way of saying the same in English: 'As an alternative to the x, y, z capitalist model proposed by ALCA...'

imo this will help the sentence to read much more clearly in English
