Hello, I need help to find an English equivalent for this word, it refers to places like schools, day care centers, hospitals, universities, residential homes, enterprises, etc. They are talking about catering services delivered to this sort of places.

Yes, I know it's an amalgam of other answers, but I think this encompasses all the sorts of places listed by using a neutral word like "clients"

disagree  AllegroTrans: A university or school does not fit this description, and a private enterprise is definitely not within the care industry

community and public buildings

Explanation:
There is no one word equivalent to colectividades, as it is used to refer to public buildings and also public organisations of various kinds, as you describe. Often it refers to local authority controlled spaces. I've usually translated it as community buildings or community organisations depending on the context.

industrial feeding / Industrial catering

Explanation:
"Colectividades" as such is "Industrial Feeding". Some call it "Industrial catering", but it's not the usual term, even if it does explain itself perfectly. I worked in this field at management level for 23 years. It means catering for schools, hospitals, geriatric residences, company canteen, etc.

Seeing your comment, Ernesto, I can now only suggest "Industrial Feeding/Catering clients/customers" (optional - depending on the term you normally use). Hope this hits the target!

Asker: Yes, they are talking about the catering delivered to "these places", but what I need is the equivalent for "these places", which are referred to here as "colectividades"

agree  Bubo Coroman (X): for the enterprises, industrial catering, and for the rest, institutional catering. The link is from India, their English is like U.K. English: http://www.clickindia.com/detail.php?id=2341362
33 mins
-> Thanks, Deborah, although Indian English often has its own definition of "English".

agree  philgoddard: Catering, not feeding (which refers to animals). Deborah, your link shows that Indian English is unlike any other English in the world!
2 hrs
-> The offical term used at that time was "Industrial Fereding", although it then became modernised and "Industrial Catering" was brought into the picture. I entirely agree with your comment on Indian "English". I tried interpreting it and had a laugh!

agree  Christine Walsh: Maybe 'industrial and institutional...' for greater clarity. http://www.cateringworker.com/industrial_catering.html // Yes, I learnt that from your answer, but depending on the target readers still think clarification might be useful. I didn't know!
5 hrs
-> Thanks, Christine, although this is the official term used in industry.

neutral  AllegroTrans: right idea, but not a generic term to encompass the list of places specified by the asker
7 hrs
-> Sorry, AllegroTrans. I disagree. The asker has clarified that he's talking about the "catering services delivered to these places" - not the places. This industry caters to all the places mentioned (and more...).

neutral  cmwilliams (X): not 'feeding'
