The right to possession means that once the unit has been rented to the tenant, it is his/hers to possess, to the exclusion of everyone, including the landlord.Even though the landlord may own the property, even though the landlord pays the taxes and is responsible for maintenance, and even though the landlord has a right to exclusive control of the property before it is rented, once occupied, it is the tenant who has the right to exclusive control of the property.
