Context: El [equipo], que también seguirá contando con el jugador [nombre], es actual subcampeón de un campeonato que subirá de nivel esta año al haberse reforzado casi todos los conjuntos.

It's from "subira de nivel" onwards that I'm confused. From tghe structure I'd understand that it's the championship that is somehow going up a level, rather than the team or the player, but I don't know what that means in reality, and especially don't understand the final 5 words.

neutral  Kim Edwards-Buarque: I agree with the context of the answer, but the tense is incorrect (subirá de nivel - will raise the bar) - or even then, as a passive structure "the bar will be raised"? Is this not better than completely reverting the tense from future to past?

  -> I think the tense is fine. Plus I think it works better as a passive structure; "the championship will raise the bar" doesn't work for me//It's not the past, but rather the present perfect, links the past+present, it's a very useful tense, see the ref.
