Social Sciences - Government / Politics
Spanish term or phrase: asambleísta
A text about a work by a contemporary Argentine artist:

This does NOT refer to assemblymen or assemblywomen in the classic sense of a formal governing body, but rather to participants in a popular assembly that characterized politics in Argentina in aftermath of the crisis of 2001.

agree  Robert Carter: Ah, yes, that makes much more sense. I had overlooked the date here, and for some reason I assumed it was earlier in the 20th century.

  -> Thank you!

neutral  philgoddard: This does look convincing because of "asamblea piquetera", but have you found any references showing that "asambleísta" is picketer?
1 hr
  -> I think it can be assumed that a member of an "asamblea piquetera" is an "asambleista", if rather sardonically, which is in line with their description as "eternos"

agree  neilmac: So "piquetero" -> picketer...

Reference information:
A picket (not "picketer") is a worker or group of workers who protest outside a building to prevent other workers from going inside, at least in the UK.
And, slightly off topic, there was a pop group called the Flying Pickets...

Reference

Reference information:
