A diagnostic test that detects viral particles in blood or bodily fluids. Through a process called PCR, or polymerase chain reaction, small amounts of pathogen DNA are amplified — or copied --- to sufficient levels for detection. Studies of isolated pieces of DNA are nearly impossible without PCR amplification.

İlk olarak ABD kökenli Cetus şirketinde çalışan Henry A. Erlich, Kary B. Mullis ve Randall K.
