Granted, "Topicality of the subject" gets 5x more Google hits. However, "Current importance of the topic" is understandable to a wider audience. Moreover, "topicality" carries the connotation of "current popularity" and "trendiness" as distinct from "current importance" in the sense of solemn significance and urgency. Thus "topicality" is more likely to cause the reader to pause unnecessarily.
