Comment: I would not tend to translate "объемное" as "space-occupying", given that virtually everything is observed to occupy space.
Comment 2: To call it a neoplasm does not constitute rewriting the author, because in the scheme of things everything that does not belong there and which originated there is a neoplasm. "Neoplasm" does not mean merely that it arose recently.
