From the context, it sounds like "bene diffuso" is similar to "albergo diffuso", i.e., something that is scattered here and there. (My experience with "alberi vetusti" is that often such trees are located many km from each other, and that they are not necessarily so numerous as to be considered "widespread". As for the meaning of "widespread", alcoholism can be a "widespread" problem, but if a husband and wife live thousands of km apart from each other, one does not speak of them as a "widespread couple".)

I am not aware of any good translation for "albergo diffuso" (online one finds such attempts as "widespread hotel", "diffused hotel", "extended hotel", "spread-hotel", "multi-site hotel", and "multi-building hotel", none of which would work well in the case of trees). Nevertheless, I would suggest as a translation "scattered good" or "widely scattered good".

(The "common" in "common good" (bene comune) has an entirely different meaning. From the context it is clear that a "bene diffuso" is a good that is found in non-contiguous (and perhaps widely separated places), while "bene comune" refers to a good that, regardless of where it is found, has many joint owners.)
