agree  Robert Carter: Well researched. Looks like the source has been cribbed (poorly). If it's talking about migrants fromLibya, then I think the idea is "to return them to".
6 mins

neutral  Graciela Silvia Parma: So, what is the difference between "reject" and "not allow in"? It is a matter of words, and to say one thing, reject is not best option, I will include "refuse to let in" for instance. My opinion, not to open a discussion, really.

agree  Joshua Parker: I agree with Robert here - I think the idea is that Libya is not a safe port/haven/place for migrants to be returned to.

disagree  Lester Tattersall: So, if something is difficult to translate your solution is simply to ignore it?

neutral  Robert Carter: Yes, but this translation doesn't really make sense in the context.//Unfortunately, the double negative makes it spectactularly difficult to understand the idea you're trying to express. In any case, I don't think that's what it's saying. Saludos!

  -> "puerto seguro para rechazar a migrantes" I understand they can enter with no difficulty. So "not a safety port to not allow the migration of people..." is exactly what I understand in Spanish. Yes, it is within context.:)

take... to

Explanation:
"a country that can by no means be considered a safe port to take the migrants to."

It's really to 'dump' the migrants, but that wouldn't sound very good.

I say "safe port" to be safe, as I think this is possibly the legal term that must be used, even though, as someone has pointed out, a port is normally a town or city not a country.

push back

Explanation:
Push-backs are a set of state measures by which refugees and migrants are forced back over a border – generally immediately after they crossed it – without consideration of their individual circumstances and without any possibility to apply for asylum or to put forward arguments against the measures taken. Push-backs violate – among other laws – the prohibition of collective expulsions stipulated in the European Convention on Human Rights.

Example sentence(s):
  • EU border agency helps Greece push back migrants.

agree  Lester Tattersall: It seems you're right. In Australia they apparently invented the term, and it was translated inti Spanish by "(medidas de) rechazo" and "rechazar". See Discussion Entry no. 10.
