Lung disease caused by inhalation

Explanation:
"Pneumopathie" means lung disease (a broad term encompassing severa disease entities, not just pneumonia).

Inhalation(al) lung disease does not sound very well, so I went with the descriptive solution.

But the key is that "-pathie" means "disease". While "pneumopathy" is not used in EN, it simply means lung/pulmonary disease.

Most lung diseases caused by inhalation are occupational lung diseases but not necessarily.

disagree  Drmanu49: That could be caused by an airborne pathogen and does not correspond to the French definition.

-> Indeed. We would need more context to be sure. If they are talking about particles of, say, a liquid, being inhaled, then aspiration as a term works. But asbestos, for instance, is inhaled not aspirated.

disagree  Lirka: I beg to differ: Pneumopathie does not equal pneumonia. And aspiration does not equal inhalation. // Yes, vehemently :=)
2 hrs
-> Well we disagree and pneumopathie is translated by pneumonia.

neutral  philgoddard: The French doesn't say "pneumonie".
5 hrs
-> It's exactly the same Phil. I have had several articles on the subject published in MMI.

agree  Anne Schulz: While it is counterintuitive, it is probably correct (except that the associated terms don't seem to be consistently defined, neither in English nor in French, such that it could be aspiration pneumonitis, aspiration pneumonia, or both)

Aspiration pneumonitis and pneumonia are caused by inhaling toxic substances, usually gastric contents, into the lungs. Chemical pneumonitis, bacterial pneumonia, or airway obstruction can occur. Symptoms include cough and dyspnea. Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation and chest x-ray findings. Treatment and prognosis differ by aspirated substance.

Aspiration pneumonitis and aspiration pneumonia are clinical syndromes caused by aspiration. These conditions are clinically significant due to their high morbidity and mortality. However, aspiration as a preceding event are often unwitnessed, particularly in cases of asymptomatic or silent aspiration.
