Asker: Thank you for your help - and please excuse my delayed response. I'm not totally sure what you meant by "earmarked gems." Would you mind explaining a little further?

disagree  Christopher Hitchcock: 'Earmarked gems' is a nice expression but I think would sound a bit odd stylistically in something like this. I would go for something a bit wordier like 'highlighted/picked out particularly eloquent parts [of the text]' or even 'nukat' with a note.
