the criterion / evidence/ proof Explanation: The Arabic word فرقان Furqan is from the root ف ر ق , which means to separate; to distinguish, the suffix ان has a function of exaggeration that is called in arabic صيغة مبالغة as: رحمان the Most Merciful, the root ان + رحم فرقان The Most Distinguished between true and false, right and wrong, ان+فرق The word Al-Furqan signifies the Qur’an, that which makes a separation or distinction between truth and falsehood, guidance and misguidance, good and evil, so it's known as the criterion in english.
