loin Explanation: This is the plural of llonze (it should be llonzes on the plural) and - in this area at least - it's used to refer to chops, usually pork chops. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 20 mins (2004-07-18 11:44:37 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- sorry. I meant to write chop instead of loin in the answer! |

suspicious word... Explanation: Since neither llonsa or llonça are words that I know, and none of them comes in the DIEC or the Alcover-Moll, I wonder wether this could be a creative translation of the Spanish 'loncha'. Do you have a Spanish version to check? Just in case, here's what wordreference gives for 'loncha': loncha sustantivo femenino (generalmente) slice [de bacón] slice; rasher (británico) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 30 mins (2004-07-18 11:54:25 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- After some more searching, I find it comes from llonza: Alcover Moll: 2. Tallada de carn adherida a una falsa costella (or., occ., val., bal.); cast. lonja, loncha. The correct spelling in plural should be llonzes, then, not llonses. But I do not know the English word for it... |
