context:
The boy doesn't like washing (it's not showering because we're in the '50s/'60s) properly before going to school and his mum threatens him saying:
"Un dia d'aquests t'escaldaré sencer amb aigua bullent." Aquesta idea no li feia gens de gràcia, a en Quim, que sabia per experiència que aquell dia arribava periòdicament. Però qui dia passa, any empeny, i ell donava per acabada la sessió de neteja personal i marxava corrents cap a la cuina a esmorzar."

Does anyone know an equivalent in English?

I think the idea is the "optimistic" one below:

Qui dia passa, any empeny
Expressió per a indicar que ens desentenem de les dificultats de cada dia, d'una situació desagradable, de conseqüències que ens poden afectar, però que es van ajornant... També pot tenir un altre significat una mica més optimista, en el sentit de què resolent les dificultats del dia-a-dia s'arriben a resoldre's les de tot l'any.

I guess your general problem is that there seem to be a lot more of these refranys in Catalan and they seem to be more widely used (whereas these things tend to sound like clichés in English even when there are equivalents!
