Catalan term or phrase: position of adjective (and another question slipped in!)
Hi, I'd appreciate your advice on where to place the adjective 'quality' in this following sentence.
Do you think it's qualifying all these things, the last couple or just 'assaig divulgatiu'? (which I have translated as 'popular essays' - is that okay?)
Thanks, Anne

English translation:exacte, nomes qualifica "assaig".
Explanation:
"divulgatiu" means it informs people. how about translating it for "informative"?

Divulgar: "Fer arribar (una cosa) a coneixement d'un gran nombre de persones". Diccionari de la llengua catalana. Diccionaris de l'Enciclopedia catalana.

Good luck!

Looks to me as though it modifies only "assaig",

Explanation:
because there'd be no reason to apply it to any of the other items. I think what it's doing here is distinguishing the essays they publish from op-ed fluff. In answer to your other question, no, I'd say "popular" is a little too general to render "divulgatiu", though I'm afraid I can't offer you an alternative off the top of my head.

disagree  Berni Armstrong: I'm only disagreeing with your strange composite adjective. informative essays would work though :-)

educational

Explanation:
I'd go for "essays of an educational nature".

Since this is how we usually refer to things which inform the greater public about things in the wider world.

EG: Educational programmes on TV.

Alternatives might be "documentary essays" or "factual essays"

with /paying special attention to quality biographies and memoirs, history and journalistic essays

They are never going to just qualify 2 items as 'quality', as, by implication, it would seem that the other 2 items were not 'quality'. The adjectiuve qualifies all.

I prefer journalistic and general essays
