Chinese term or phrase: 升华
Basically I am having trouble parsing the whole sentence. I don't know what 升华 should be connected to in the first sentence.

在夏瑞芳的一生中,不仅有张元济团队的加盟,让他的生命与事业为之升华所带来的快慰,也有陆费逵、沈知方等的出走,出现了强劲的竞争对手所带来的压力和动荡。有胸怀不一定能干成大事,但没有胸怀一定干不成事。夏瑞芳向社会、世人、行业展示了他博大的胸怀,最典型的事例是他与沈知方之间的故事。

English translation:lift up
Explanation:
为之 here means 因此,之 Has to be understood with 为, not as an individual character to be put between the nouns。

为之升华 refers to 生命与事业 due to the joining of the Zhang team which seems to be a capable workforce for 夏瑞芳.

Example usage for 为之: 李莫愁斗逢大敌,精神为之一振,想不到这高瘦和尚膂力固然沉厚,出招尤是迅捷。 -- 金庸《神雕侠侣》第二十二回。

为之 is quite common in Chinese essays. Another example is: 眼前为之一亮,

为之动容 =被感动

As the source sentence refers to “life and career“, I suggest “lift up“。

Hope it helps.

Here 为之 is not totally correct in terms of grammar. It will be easier if modified as “让他的生命与事业{得以}升华”

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yes, but what is being raised to a higher level? And the use of 之 confuses me because I thought that 之 had to be between two nouns but 为 is not a noun. I am happy with the concept of the word but the relationship between all the nouns is what troubles me.
