Pollutants will be derived from both the abrasive, and from the substrate being ground. • Needle Gunning – Needle gunning and scaling is the process of using a “needle” impact gun against the substrate, which breaks and chips away the relatively loose coating, scale, slag, etc. Needle gunning does not use abrasive grinding materials and, therefore removes that potential source of pollutants. The particle size of the waste stream also tends to be significantly larger than that generated by grinding.
