Czech term or phrase: jakby ne
From a Czech World War I soldier's journal: "Žízeň a hlad, obojí nás obtěžovalo. Jakby ne, již třetí den neviděli jsme žádný kousek chleba."

I'm guessing (key word: guessing!) this means something like: "Thirst and hunger both troubled us. And why wouldn't they? For the third day already we hadn't seen a single piece of bread." Of course, this is just a guess based on context...

(and) no wonder/ (and)indeed/why, ...
Explanation:
I would not repeat the thirst and hunger, just: and no wonder, for three days... or: (and) indeed, for three days... etc. IMO :)

You could also say: After all, for three days....etc.
After all - again having an explanatory meaning here, giving a reason.
