Explanation:
In the U.S. military, there are two kinds of servicemen - Officers & Enlisted. Enlisted are the lower ranks (named differently in each service branch). Officers are the higher ranks (First Lieutenant and up). Some service branches (e.g. the Army) have a special set of ranks called 'Warrant Officers'.

It's the same in most of the militaries across the world.
