It is from a letter. American host family want a Czech student to go to church almost every day. The mother would like to explain the family that though they are believers, they do not demonstrate it by everyday visits to church. It should not sound very strong.

Explanation:
If the expressiion has to be strong I thing the comparison with heart could be good as far as belief is concerned.
As regards "house of God", there are many hints.

Explanation:
Many options here though in my mind not very well translatable. To truly express what's meant you can use The Gospel of Thomas along these lines:


Jesus Said:
I am the Light
Which illumines all men.
I am the All.
The All came forth from me
and the All ended up in me.
Split some wood, I am there.
Lift a stone,
you will find me there.

Meaning basically you don't need a church (the building) to praise God.
