This was not confined to Explanation: I think it is best to forget about the "kotlina" - an English-speaking readership would not have a clue what you were talking about (much in the same way as we do not understand France being referred to as the "hexagon"). I think you will have to forget about the "colour" and just use something like "was not confined to" "Of course the Czechs were not alone in this respect".... or something like that. Ceska kotlina is used as a throwaway term in Czech - there is no throwaway equivalent in English.
