tanksleutel

English translation: fuel pump key

Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Automotive / Cars & Trucks / refuelling a company car
Dutch term or phrase: tanksleutel
Het tanken geschiedt met een door the employer ter beschikking gestelde tankkaart/tanksleutel.

Any ideas for "tanksleutel" please. Is it a key or a spanner, wrench?
jethro
English translation:fuel pump key
Explanation:
"Met een voertuiggebonden tanksleutel moet de chauffeur zich bij de pomp aanmelden. Na ingave van de actuele kilometerstand wordt de pomp vrijgegeven en kan er worden getankt. Alle tanktransacties worden in het geheugen van de automaat opgeslagen."

There's a picture and a more detailed explanation in my reference. You may need to add a note of explanation - I'd never heard of this concept before.

not likely but tanksleutel could also be the actual

key to the filler cap

If it were to be a key, then it would have read:

Het tanken geschiedt met een door the employer ter beschikking gestelde tankkaart en tanksleutel.

A possible difference between the cards could be:

tankkaart: fuel card WITH PIN

tanksleutel: fuel card withOUT PIN

disagree Michael Beijer: a key is not a card; see: http://wordbook.nl/screenshots/example-of-a-fuel-key.png / If two NL terms exist: tankkaart + tanksleutel, and two seemingly equivalent EN terms exist: fuel card + fuel key, why not use them?

neutral freekfluweel: Apparently this thing exists. Don't know why though. The exact same result (data transfer etc.) can be obtained without the use of an additional key as I have experienced when driving a company car... card only!

fuel key

Explanation:
See e.g.:

"Please fuel car when under half tank.

Use black fuel key, found on key ring, at County sites. Input mileage and insert key at fuel island terminal to activate pump.

If far away, you may use Voyager fuel card from handheld at a commercial fueling station. A PIN will be displayed for 10 seconds when removed. Enter PIN at fuel pump much like a debit card." (https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web... )

"How do I purchase fuel at the Transportation Center?

To collect data for state reporting, we have a system that tracks the fuel entered into each vehicle and a meter reading with a data key. In order to purchase fuel, a data fuel key is needed. These keys are vehicle specific and should only be used to fuel the vehicle for which the key is assigned. Fuel keys can be obtained at the Transportation Center. You may also fill out the Transportation Center Request for Services and submit."

Example sentence(s):
 • Use black fuel key, found on key ring, at County sites. Input mileage and insert key at fuel island terminal to activate pump.
