kruisen crossbreeding Explanation: see IATE: http://iate.europa.eu/iatediff/SearchByQueryEdit.do -> "Agricultural biotechnology is a science that has evolved over hundreds of years. Through experimental crossbreeding of garden peas, Gregor Mendel’s work in the 1860s helped explain the basic laws of genetics" http://www.soyconnection.com/soybean_oil/biotech_facts.php |

... of crossbreeding and cross-pollination Explanation: Kruisen- crossbreeding is relatively straightforward. Uitkruisen is for example when individuals from a crop manage to outbreed with wild plants. This is topical due to GM-crops pollinating other plants, thereby distributing their genetic material. This is called-cross-pollination and regarded as a threat. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 23 mins (2009-04-09 15:11:16 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Ah, no, it should be "crossbreeding and outcrossing", many references: De COGEM heeft in het kader van haar onderzoeksprogramma onderzoek laten uitvoeren teneinde een ‘mathematisch model uitkruisen’ te ontwikkelen. Development of a predictive model’ opgesteld door mevrouw drs. M.W. Smith-Kleefsman, prof. dr. F.J. - -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 36 mins (2009-04-09 15:23:35 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Please mind, the Dutch term is "uitkruisen" and not "uit kruisen".
