agree  Fred ten Berge: mortiser!! (die Kluwer Bouwkunde toch - - -) // Nobody in the buildig industry and no woodworker would consider a 'gatensteek' (unless -machine is explicitely added) as anything else but a tool. Not a machine! Please, correct me if I'm wrong.
