Raw Materials Decision Staatsbesluit van 29 Mei 1997 ter uitvoering van artikel 47 lid 1 van de Wet Tarief van Invoerrechten 1996 (Grondstoffenbesluit 1997)
@Richard: Indeed, ‘on’ is better than ‘relating to’. I would probably just go with:
Dutch Commodities Act Decree on Playground and Amusement Equipment
The Dutch government themselves translate it as ‘Dutch Playground and Amusement Equipment Commodities Act Decree’.
@Barend: I think it is quite clear that this refers to a Decree within the framework of the Commodities Act. I don't think your solution with the semi colon works.
What about: ‘Decree on Playground and Amusement Equipment under the Dutch Commodities Act’ ? -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
@Richard: this discussion should probably be in a question of its own…
There's no conventional translation of this because it's a Surinamese law, so there's no reason for it to have one. You can call it whatever you like within reason. By and large, the only laws that do have official versions in other languages are international ones, such as UN treaties and EU directives.
tbh I don't understand if the word Decree as it is understood in NL is the same as in in the UK or US or if it is even translatable... however, I found 'Commodities Act Decree' on Eur-Lex, led me to 'Dutch Commodities Act Decree on Amusement and Playground Equipment', no brackets , and no 'relating to' Michael, that sounds too incidental and vague to me.
Commodities Act, Attractions and Playground Equipment
Approved by the Dutch Keurmerk Instituut (Certification Institute) according to standard EP144v2: Commodities Act, Attractions and Playground Equipment and later amendments.
Playground and amusement equipment in the Netherlands must comply with the safety requirements of the Playground and Amusement Equipment (Commodities Act) Decree (Warenwetbesluit attractie- en speeltoestellen, WAS). You may only keep playground and amusement equipment which has a certificate of approval. An appointed inspection body has to test your equipment annually. […]
The WAS does not apply to playground equipment at people's homes and small amusement equipment for a maximum of 3 people (e.g. kiddie rides at supermarkets).’</tt>
I think it might sound better like this: Dutch Commodities Act Decree on Playground and Amusement Equipment
Or, their way around, but then get rid of those Nederbrackets:
Dutch Playground and Amusement Equipment Commodities Act Decree
Warenwetbesluit attractie- en speeltoestellen (WAS) = (26 maart 1997) Attractions and Playground Apparatus (Commodities Act) Decree
Never have entirely understood JurLex's use of brackets though. Furthermore, it's one thing using brackets in a dictionary (to save space or indicate various meanings), and another altogether using them on a government website.
I've got another of these to translate, 'Warenwetbesluit atrractie- en speeltoestellen', even the Dutch writer can't spell it, I think I'll use 'Commodities Act Decree.......'
After posting and then removing a link (http://www.suriname.nu/douane/wetten3.html ), and commenting on the Dunglishness of Barend's answer, do you have a suggestion of your own?
‘Agricultural Sector Support in Suriname, DRAFT’ published (I think) by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) + the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
‘In accordance with the Raw Material Regulation (Grondstoffenbesluit), which was introduced in 1997 to respond to the demand of the private sector to bring Suriname’s tax concession structure in line with other CARICOM member states, producers and manufacturers benefit from exemption of import duties on raw materials, inputs, semi-finished products and packing materials. The regulation states that these materials are only exempt from inputs if they are imported to be used in production processes in a number of sectors, including agriculture, livestock and fisheries.’ (http://goo.gl/x5xM63 ) (on website: http://www.sice.oas.org/ )
A document on www.kluwerlawonline.com (usually pretty reliable) seems to translate it as ‘Raw Materials Decision’, but you need to pay to access the document in question.
but I think you could also get away with making one up yourself as there doesn't seem to be a standard EN translation, yet. adding the Dutch in brackets or sth like that
