Explanation: Given the second sentence, it looks like Freud was afraid that "paranormale verschijnselen" etc. could damage the credibility of psychoanalysis. That is, he felt that there was a risk that psychoanalysis might be taken less seriously if associated with "paranormale verschijnselen" etc. See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_fallacy Perhaps a little confusing, given the fact that "free association" is a technique used in psychoanalysis that was originally devised by Freud. |
