Dutch term or phrase: aansluiten (bij een geschilleninstantie)
Een hypotheekadviseur dient zich aan te sluiten bij een geschilleninstantie.

It seems that in NL the mortgage advisor gets to *choose* the arbitration body they want to deal with any issues that may arise as a result of complaints and whatnot. I find this a bit confusing and I'm somewhat at a loss as to how to word this--after all, "join" makes it sound like they're going to sit on the committee or whatever, which obviously isn't what's going on.

Any thoughts on this one?

agree  writeaway: yes. Jurlex is inaccessible at the moment. /yes. one is basically forced to take an online subscription for over €200/year for one pair only (ie not Nl-En + En-Nl) and it's been out of commission since yesterday, if not before. At those rates......

-> Thanks. You mean the 'infallible' van den End dicco, CD or an online resource. //Obviously the lexicographers are busy incorporating our ideas and suggestions.

neutral  Michael Beijer: It seems we are interpreting this question quite differently. Hmm. Not sure I entirely understand your answer. / thanks for the law notes (always interesting to learn fr someone w/ actual knowledge of law). just don't think that's what the Dutch says.

-> the mortgage advisor joins in the arbotration as a neutral third party.//Don't worry. Most law students don't understand the claimant adding of a co-defendant, vs. the defendant joining in a third party vs. a neutral expert like an advisor intervening,

disagree  David Walker (X): This is registering with a dispute authority so that if there is a complaint against the mortgage adviser it can be handled without having to go to court

-> well, you've taught me something there as I would never have thought - and my Cassells dictionary draws a blank - that register is wthin the parameters of aansluiten.

disagree  Kitty Brussaard: See also my agree with Michael's answer and the links I provided there. It seems your limited working knowledge of Dutch made you take the wrong turn here :-)
