I have been thinking about this second hat as well. And initially I was thinking what you are thinking "hoe staat je pet" - "what is your mood / what mood are you in". And this could still be right.
You can, however, also look at it in a different way.
Which/what hat are you wearing here? How are you wearing it (this hat) and ....
This means, it is quite possible that the same metaphor is continued in the second sentence, don't you agree?.
I'm thinking of Edward de Bono's thinking hats, amongst other things, but this could apply in many other situations as well: you can wear your teacher's hat in many different ways, for instance.
Today, probably all of us here have already worn different hats – partner, teacher, parent, friend, colleague. In this workshop, Carol and I are wearing two different teaching hats. Carol’s is her EAP teacher’s hat.
