people who have "tangled" problems komt amper voor
ook people who are bound to their problems is eigenlijk helemaal niet courant

to have tied yourself in a knot

Explanation:

neutral  Lianne van de Ven: Tie yourself in a knot is used for thinking processes (vastlopen met een redenering), not quite the equivalent of 'met jezelf in de knoop liggen'.

after a few days of distilling i think i would use that you can you tangle and untangle (dont think unknot , albeit playful works). So me be a slogan like 'untangle the tangled'

agree  Marjolein Snippe: Dit klinkt vloeiend. 'Knotted up' klinkt iets minder mooi, hoewel niet fout.
