English translation: to call upon (oproepen)

Dutch term or phrase: opschakelen
"Mocht het volume van het inkomende en uitgaande verkeer de capaciteit van dit contactcenter overstijgen, dan is X gerechtigd om ... andere vestigingen *op te schakelen* om aan de capaciteitsbehoefte te kunnen voldoen."

I understand what the author is driving at here, but am unable to identify/verify the corresponding term in English. Suggestions? RSVP. TIA. Cheers, R.

English translation:to call upon (oproepen)
Explanation:
I don’t have a cut-and-dry answer for you Robert, but maybe a little brainstorming will help you figure out this dilemma. My thoughts: “op te schakelen” sounds like English-contaminated Dutch for “escalate”. In an SLA they usually talk about escalating an incident (but certainly never a location – that wouldn’t make any sense). Maybe the author meant to write “op te roepen” (to call upon) or “in te schakelen” (to engage)? ...other locations to meet the capacity demand.

As I also believe that the SLT might contain a typo, I have selected this option ('inschakelen' > 'engage') and requested confirmation from the client. Thx to all for your input. Cheers, R.

  -> True, Jack. However, I think this is a matter of an incorrectly written source sentence.

Explanation:
The meaning of 'opschakelen' here is derived from shifting to a higher gear when driving a car, for example. (Grote Van Dale: (bij auto’s e.d.) naar een hogere versnelling schakelen). Although not actually a translation of 'opschakelen', I think you could use the term 'upgrading' here.

to scale up

Explanation:
I know the practice of submitting more than one answer is not recommended on KudoZ, but I think it would be justified in this case.

Example sentence: ... then X shall have the right to ... scale up other branches in order to meet capacity requirements [or something along these lines]

Oxford Dictionary of English:
scale = (scale something back/down (or up) ) reduce (or increase) something in size, number, or extent: manufacturing capacity has been scaled down.

Example sentence(s):
  • ... then X shall have the right to ... scale up other branches in order to meet capacity requirements
