Maltezer kipduif Maltese (pigeon) Explanation: The Maltese pigeon is a radical departure from the common type of pigeon in that it stands high on straight legs, has a very long slender neck and a short tucked up body (cubiform). The bird should be very tall, with a short hard compact body and not so heavy as to mar the elegance or its figure nor its grace. It should carry its head high and when driving throw its head backward almost to its tail. An ideal specimen should stand fifteen or more inches in height. We are currently looking for a picture of a Maltese. An interesting site if you're looking for more pigeon names: http://www.azpigeons.org/maltese.htm -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 32 mins (2006-05-11 13:44:31 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- From another site: KIPDUIVEN - - MALTESE BREEDS and MODENAS As a general name you could use "hen pigeons" (many Google hits). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 53 mins (2006-05-11 14:05:03 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Hen Pigeons: Huhntauben http://66.249.93.104/search?q=cache:5hLa2hjdmJcJ:www.geociti... Northward into Italy, the Modena (Triganica) was once an example of a tremendous flying pigeon for not only homing and the sport of "le guerra" (The War), but also for high and long flight; that is until the outsider destroyed the breed by cross-ing into Maltese, Hungarians and other *Hen pigeons* to create a purely exhibition pigeon. http://66.249.93.104/search?q=cache:bZCJZTKaBMkJ:www.balandz... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2006-05-11 14:20:21 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- This Australian site also uses "hen pigeons" as a breed name, so maybe you might consider it: http://us.geocities.com/aussiebreeds/aussiebreeds.htm I've also thought of hen-like or hen-type pigeons, but they produce no hits. |
