A sample of countries in a specific region has been taken that were subject to a disease outbreak. The sample is used to try and predict disease outbreak in other countries based on certain indicators.

the sentence reads as follows:

"... researchers looked for natural clusters and breaks in the distribution of indicators' values"

I'm not sure I understand well what it means! Does 'cluster' mean a certain pattern in data, and 'breaks' the lack of pattern?

Is 'cluster' translated (تكتلات) in this context? How 'breaks' is translated?
