English term or phrase: The practice of gathering boys to become janissaries
Hi,

Please, what is the Bulgarian word for the gathering of boys to become janissaries under the Ottoman Empire?

By the way, were the boys taken forcibly from their parents, or did the Ottomans only take children their parents couldn’t afford to look after?

Many thanks in advance,
