Explanation:
The way it's used here is a bit weird.

The sound of the cash register is supposed to be music for the ears of the one who is doing the selling, only in this case it's the one who is doing the buying that is supposed to be delighted by the sound of the cash register?

A special case of Stockholm syndrome? Being happy at emptying your own pockets and filling other people's pockets???

I think that you have to forget cash registers altogether and look at implied/associated meanings.

The initial idea was to associate the sound of a cash register with a successful sale, so it meant "success/achieved goal" for the seller. Obviously that logic won't work for the buyer!

In this text what should be retained as the meaning of "success in what you were trying to achieve" - anything associating with that could do.

ka-ching

another confirmation of the literal meaning:

ka-ching
noun or exclamation UK /kəˈtʃɪŋ/ US /kəˈtʃɪŋ/ slang
used for talking about large amounts of money and wanting a lot of money:

Now it's time to count up the profits. Ka-ching!

Obviously, if you are the one buying, "Now it's time to count up the profits" can hardly apply to you ... back to square one, i.e. the previous explanation ....
