Toneomfang, ambitus

Et instruments toneomfang er området mellem dette instruments dybeste og højeste tone.

Explanation:
Ordet "register" betyder egentlig "toneleje" - altså hvor i et toneomfang, man befinder sig (se sætning A), eller hvor højt man spiller i forhold til andre indstumenter/sangere (se sætning B).
Sætning A:"Valdhornet har et toneomfang på fire oktaver, men klinger bedst i mellemregistret".
Sætning B: "En bassanger og en sopran kan sagtens have det samme toneomfang, men sopranen synger i et højere register".
Altså mener jeg, at det engelske ord "range" bør oversættes med "toneomfang" (eller "ambitus" som betyder "toneomfang"), hvorimod det engelske ord "register" også hedder "register" eller "toneleje" på dansk.
I øvrigt står ordet "range" egentlig i en lidt anden sammenhæng i den første engelske sætning, idet der her er tale om et "frekvensomfang".
