English to Dutch translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Computers (general) / view of computer screens
English term or phrase:fly-in
Context sentence: When users login, if they have access to multiple studies, they will select (CIRCLE) which they wish to view. FLY IN
The Word is found on slides used in a training for people who are going to use a new automated payment computer program.
I understand what a fly-in is, namely a text box added to the slide in order to clarify something seen on the screen, but I don't know what this is called in Dutch.
Fly In = Binnenvliegen ~ PowerPoint 2007 Fly In = Binnenvliegen ~ SharePoint Designer 2007 Fly In = Invoegen ~ Office for Mac 2008 Fly In = Invoegen ~ Office for Mac 2008 SP Fly In = Binnenvliegen ~ PowerPoint 2007 SP2 Fly In = Binnenvliegen ~ Office System 2010 Fly In = Binnenvliegen ~ Office System 2010 SP1 Fly In = Binnenvliegen ~ PowerPoint 2013 Fly In = Binnenvliegen ~ PowerPoint 2016 Fly In = Invoegen Office for Mac 2016
Fly Out = Naar buiten vliegen ~ A title animation in Windows Movie Maker. Fly In, Fades = Naar binnen vliegen, vervaagt ~ A title animation in Windows Movie Maker. Fly In, Fly Out = Naar binnen vliegen, naar buiten vliegen ~ A title animation in Windows Movie Maker. Fly In, Top Left = Naar binnen vliegen, linksboven ~ A title animation in Windows Movie Maker. Fly In, Left and Right = Naar binnen vliegen, links en rechts ~ A credit or title animation in Windows Movie Maker.
"Invoegen" seems to be used on Office for Mac. No mention of PowerPoint.
ANIMATIE Net zoals in PPT kan je nu voor teksten en afbeeldingen animatie gaan toevoegen. Je weet wel: teksten komen binnengevlogen, knipperen, vouwen zich op…
The screens show the grey text boxes next to the items to be illustrated. These are static images, so I don't actually see the text flying in; they are already there. However, I suppose that the people who will watch the slides during their training will see the boxes flying in. What I need to do is to translate the text within each grey box, which is referred to as a "FLY IN". I could maintain the English term, but I have not found any Dutch texts where it is used; hence my doubt.
hmm. not sure about "binnenvliegende tekst", as you did say:
The client has confirmed, at my request, that FLY IN refers to the grey boxes that fly in towards the text to be illustrated. I think I have no alternative then but to use "binnenvliegende tekst".
Would this then mean that grey boxes or effects of some sort, fly in and cover the text (perhaps semi-transparently)? Or do they actually fly in containing text (which would indeed correspond to "binnenvliegende tekst")?
It looks like Roy and Gerard might be right, and that it may mean the effect. I think I'll leave my Neutral on Roy's answer though, as I don't feel comfortable saying categorically that it is the effect, rather than an actual "thing" (dialogue, window, menu, etc.), without more and better context.
Just found: "Flyout Menus: This is a horizontal version of the dropdown, where the submenus "flyout" from the side when you mouse over or click the main item. The basic code is the same, just the directions of the submenus are different. These descriptions are based on the orientation of the menu, not really different types of menus."
So this is not the same as a fly-in, which is not a fixed part of the text on a screen.
Yes, that's what I thought (that you were looking for a noun). Hmm.
some ideas:
binnenvlieg tekstvak? binnenvlieg informatievak? ‘fly-in’ tekstvak / fly-in tekstvak ‘fly-in’ informatievak / fly-in informatievak of iets met het woord "infovenster" / "informatie venster"
je ziet best vaak dat men het woord "fly-out" in het NL gebruikt. zie bijv:
"nl: fly-out: De fly-out in UI11 is een venster dat wordt geopend voor het huidige scherm. Met fly-outvensters kunnen gebruikers informatie weergeven zonder dat ze de geopende vensters hoeven te sluiten.
en: flyout: In UI11, a flyout is a window that opens on top of the current screen. Flyout windows allow users to view information without navigating away from open panes."
You said you think it is "a text box added to the slide in order to clarify something seen on the screen", which seems one way of describing it. I assume it gets its name from the fact that it "flies in" (slides in) from the side of the screen.
I also just looked at freek's ref (the Microsoft Language Portal is always the first place to look for things like this), maar werd er niet veel wijzer van. All it gives is the term used as verb: fly in = naar binnen vliegen, binnenvliegen, invoegen
I wonder whether it might be best to just keep the English in this case, maybe in quotes.
