De term 'garage' verwijst m.i. niet per se naar die betreffende ruimte, maar naar het feit dat het stoken bij iemand thuis gebeurt (i.t.t. bij een officiële stokerij).

neutral  Kitty Brussaard: I'd prefer the more natural-sounding zelfgestookte (sterkedrank), as used in your reference. / De bronterm is niet echt gangbaar, dus ik zou het gewoon lezen als: niet-commercieel geproduceerde, al dan niet letterlijk thuis gestookte sterkedrank.

  -> Volgens mij dekt 'zelfgestookt' de lading niet, want je kunt overal zelf stoken (zie de documentaireserie "Moonshiners", daar doen ze het zelfs in afgelegen bossen!). 'Garage' houdt volgens mij in dat het thuis gebeurt.
