Het staand want zijn alle lijnen (vaak stagen) die de mast ondersteunen en, over het algemeen, niet makkelijk worden verwijderd. Voorbeeld van staand want is de voorstag en de zijstagen.) Sheet is loefschoot of lijschoot. De loefschoot aan het grootzeil staat in een bepaalde hoek op de vaarrichting. Trek je deze naar binnen, dan komt het achterste deel van het grootzeil meer binnenboord, en wordt de totale hoek van het grootzeil met de boot kleiner. Je kunt dan scherper aan de wind varen. Dus de hoek die de schoot met de boot maakt wordt verkleind. Het aantrekken doe je met 2 speciale lijnen die aan de schoothoek van het grootzeil bevestigd zijn.
