How would you translate "following first accounts and decades-long conversations with them"?

"Innocent Witnesses" is a book the writer wrote years ago. It includes childhood wartime memories of a few people who later became her friends and colleagues. It dates back to more than a half a century ago.

In Innocent Witnesses, I compile childhood histories from six people whom I have come to know as colleagues and friends, following first-person accounts and decades-long conversations with them. I did not know these individuals when we were children during the war.
