There is a strong suggestion in the Old Testament that man already existed when he was placed by God in the Garden of Eden. A text, The Myth of Pickaxe,named by Professor Samuel Kramer, confirms this and suggests that the Lord God was Enlil who travelled to Africa and seized the LU.LU slave by force :

The Lord called forth the AL.ANI,
gave its orders.
He set the earth-splitter as a crown
upon its head,
and drove it into the Place-Where-Flesh-Sprouted-Forth.
In the hole was a head of a man;
from the ground, people were
breaking through towards Enlil.
He eyed the Black-headed Ones
in steadfast fashion.

In other texts, the Place-Where-Flesh-Sprouted-Forth was referred to as Bit-Shimti,the 'house' of Shimti.

Je me permets en bon hébraïsant et théologien de récuser fortement la notion comme quoi l'homme aurait été préexistent: le jeu de mot adam - adamah (le "terreux" ou "terrien" (trad. Cassuto, Chouraqui) tiré de la "terre")l'exclut déjà en soi, et le texte n'en dit rien. Mais cela dit à part - déformation professionnelle ;-) !

neutral  Igor Kazmierski: Je ne récuse pas votre traduction (loin de là !), mais il semble que les deux termes désignent la même chose tout en étant différents. Je pense que le mot "wind/gale" aurait été indiqué s'il s'agissait de la traduction que vous proposez.
