neutral  Daryo: I think there's a need here to adapt to a global worldwide target audience (=> The Global Platform organised by the United Nations ...). That's possibly why the Asker posted a question about this otherwise simple and straightforward term.

neutral  writeaway: sure, but it's not the correct translation for mayor. a mayor is an elected official and it's a bourgmestre in Belgium. no more complicated than that. /why Fr French if the target audience is Belgian? but a mayor IS a bourgmestre or maire. hands down
45 mins
-> every single local community in the whole world has a "bourgmestre"? // Also, as the target audience are ALL French speaking members of UN (UNISDR) [a UN document], the "mainstream" version i.e. French French should be used anyway.
