English term or phrase: INTRODUCTION
Dear All,

I am translating a referral fee agreement. Under the section Obligations of XXX, there comes this paragraph:

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Agreement, XXX shall be
entitled to the Referral Fee as long as subsequent Up-Sale to Customers are due to the
prior relationship with XXX’s employees and/or Contractors with the said
Customer. This takes into account an assumed decline in the Referral Fee, as the benefit
of XXX’s introduction decays over time and the relationship gradually
becomes primarily YYY's. It should be noted, however, that any
exemption due to changes of Sales Representatives at a Customer or Contractor would
only begin after a minimum of three (3) years of referral fee due to XXX France.

I understand the fee XXX is entitled would gradually become lower as the relationship between customers and YYY become stronger over time.
What I don't get is introduction. Does this mean, the benefit of XXX having introduced YYY to its customers?

Thanks for your help.
