  -> merci

disagree  Daryo: extremely unlikely - I think you confused "adverse"[news] with "adversarial"[report]
5 hrs

disagree  Tony M: Agree with Daryo: nothing in the EN source text suggests 'contradictoire' here, it just means 'unfavourable', 'negative'.

disagree  AllegroTrans: "contradictoire" describes a procedure and doesn't mean "unfavourable"

rapport sur la presse défavorable

Explanation:
adverse news report
=
report on "adverse news" concerning the potential supplier
i.e. on published news that are giving a bad image to this supplier, IF there are any;

as this is not a judicial procedure, I would understand "adverse" in the plain everyday meaning of "unfavorable" / "plain negative" etc... without looking for any parallel or reference to the "adversarial procedure"/"procédure contradictoire" as used in legal proceedings;

all they want with this report is to know if there is any "bad press" about this company.

The parallel that would make sense is the one with "adverse research" about your own candidate that is conducted before starting an electoral campaign - finding all the skeletons in the closet, before the opposition starts using them in the middle of the campaign.

IOW checking for any potential bad news about the potential supplier, nothing more.

"presse" is used here to cover all published media

ASAK "news" get published [otherwise they are not news - that's the nature of the beast] - nowadays in all sort of media, but you still say that someone is getting "bad press" even if it's published on TV or radio or even being spread through social media.

Asker: no, sorry, nothing to do with "press"

Asker: Could we use the word "réputation"?

agree  Tony M: You are the only one to have perfectly understood the correct meaning of the EN source text — though I still have some qualms about the exact best way of expressing the notion in FR.

disagree  Daryo: it's not the report that is "adverse", it's a report (you can't know in advance which way it is going to swing) about potential "adverse news" regarding this would-be supplier // any other option doesn't make any real-life sense.
